A fierce storm unleashed its wrath along the Indo-Bhutan border, particularly in the regions of Dimakusi, Bagrital, Sonajuli, Shuklai, Rajagarh, and Dakshin Kalikhola, situated in Udalguri district. The tempest’s merciless rampage claimed numerous lives across the state and left behind a path of destruction.
Amidst the chaos, a tale of survival emerged from South Kalikhola, where a family of three narrowly escaped death. Khirod Das, Ritumoni Das, and Phulmati Das, residents of South Kalikhola village, were startled from their sleep as massive coconut trees crashed down, destroying two neighboring houses and leaving them homeless.
Tragically, other families in the vicinity, including those of Khagen Das, Jaidhar Das, Chinanda Das, Rabindra Das, and Indra Mandal, also faced the storm’s fury, suffering extensive damage to their properties and livelihoods.
The aftermath of the tempest revealed scenes of desolation, with numerous households reduced to rubble and farmlands uprooted. The disruption extended beyond physical structures, as power remained elusive due to the wreckage strewn across roads, including colossal trees, bamboo slippers, and electric poles.
In the face of such adversity, affected families have united in their plea for aid, urging both the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and the Assam government to provide compensation for their losses. This call for assistance underscores the urgent need for support in rebuilding shattered lives and communities in the aftermath of this natural disaster.
