A tragic incident has unfolded in Bongaigaon district, Assam, where fish worth lakhs of rupees have reportedly perished due to poisoning. The incident occurred in a pond at Baraisala, under the jurisdiction of the Meresar police station, sparking concerns among local authorities and residents.
The affected pond, belonging to Shamsul Sikdar, fell victim to unknown perpetrators who allegedly poisoned the water during the night. This malicious act has led to the mass death of fish, causing significant financial losses to Sikdar and highlighting the urgency of addressing such incidents promptly.
Upon receiving reports of the poisoning and fish deaths, the police have initiated an investigation into the matter to apprehend those responsible.
A local resident, speaking to the media, recounted the discovery of the poisoned fish, stating, “At first we thought the fishes died because of a shortage of water, but after some time, it was seen that all the fishes in the pond came floating on the surface. The packet on which the poison was carried was found lying near the pond. It was realized later that someone at night had poisoned the pond.”
Shamsul Sikdar has appealed for assistance in dealing with his loss, while the incident has sparked outrage within the local community. Many residents have expressed shock and condemnation over the deliberate poisoning of the pond and the resulting loss of valuable fish resources.
