Alleged Political Coercion and Manipulation Unveiled in Sikkim

In a recent development in Sikkim, allegations of attempted manipulation of political power and coercion for illicit activities have come to light, prompting action from the authorities.

The Sadar Police Station has filed FIR No. 53/2024 dated April 22, 2024, invoking sections 383/506/34 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, against individuals T. G. Nanda Kumar and Deepak Vijavan. The case has been handed over for further investigation.

According to the complaint lodged by Surya Bdr. Bista, a resident of Hee-Yangthang, West Sikkim, an encounter with T. G. Nanda Kumar in June 2020 at New Sikkim House, New Delhi, raised suspicions about Kumar’s intentions. Allegedly, Kumar, leveraging his political influence, expressed a desire to meet with political figures from Sikkim.

Despite Bista’s refusal to engage in unlawful activities or actions contrary to the state’s interests, Kumar allegedly transferred Rs 5 crores into Bista’s bank account. Subsequently, Deepak Vijavan, purportedly an associate of Kumar, deceitfully transferred an additional Rs 50 lakhs into Bista’s account, leading to its suspension. Bista reported facing harassment and threats from Kumar thereafter.

The case highlights the need for thorough investigation into allegations of political coercion and manipulation, underscoring the importance of upholding the integrity of democratic processes and combating illicit activities.
