Bangladeshi Child Reunited with Family in Jamalpur District After 3 Years in India

A heartwarming tale of reunion unfolded as a Bangladeshi child, who accidentally entered India in 2021, was finally returned to his family in Jamalpur District, Bangladesh, after three years. The District Legal Service Authority of South Salmara Mankachar (DLSA SSM) played a pivotal role in ensuring the safe repatriation of the child, marking the culmination of a lengthy process.

The journey began in 2021 when the child inadvertently crossed the Indo-Bangla border into Mankachar, Assam. Prompt action by the Mankachar police led to the child’s rescue, initiating a case at the local police station. Subsequently, the child found refuge under the care of Assam’s Boko Child Protection Cell.

Throughout the ordeal, the DLSA SSM provided unwavering legal support, advocating for the child’s rights and facilitating communication with authorities on both sides of the border. On April 26, a collaborative effort involving various stakeholders, including Legal Aid Defence Counsel, Assam police, and Meghalaya police, culminated in the child’s safe handover to the Border Guard Police of Bangladesh.

The reunion, made possible by the collective efforts of dedicated individuals and organizations, brought immense relief and joy to the child’s family. Expressing gratitude to the officials of the legal services authority, police personnel, and Border Security Force, the family members conveyed their profound appreciation for the tireless efforts that led to their reunion.

The successful repatriation serves as a testament to the commitment of all involved parties to uphold the rights and welfare of vulnerable individuals, transcending borders to ensure a happy ending to a challenging journey.
