Temporary Restrictions Implemented on Guwahati Ferry Services Due to Rising Brahmaputra River Levels

As the Brahmaputra River swells with rising water levels, strong currents, and the presence of debris and submerged objects, the Inland Water Transport (IWT) department has imposed temporary restrictions on ferry boats and vessels operating in Guwahati-based ferry services.

The surge in water levels, triggered by hours of heavy rainfall on April 27, resulted in waterlogging and artificial flooding in various parts of Guwahati city.

The decision to limit ferry boat and vessel movement is a precautionary measure aimed at ensuring the safety of passengers utilizing water transport services during these challenging conditions.

Moreover, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted further rainfall in the coming days, with heavy storms expected across Northeastern states. This prediction underscores the importance of proactive measures to mitigate risks associated with water transport amidst adverse weather conditions.
