A truck carrying a load of rubber, identified by registration number JK-05-H-0666, burst into flames on National Highway-6 near Jyntru Village, Ri Bhoi District, on Monday.
The incident unfolded around 2:00 PM when the truck driver and helper decided to park the vehicle on the highway’s side for a brief rest, only for it to suddenly erupt in flames.
Both the driver and helper sustained injuries in the fire, with the helper suffering severe injuries.Although the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, initial suspicions point to a potential electrical malfunction in the truck’s wiring system.
Upon receiving the distress call, teams from Ri Bhoi District Police and Ri Bhoi District Fire and Emergency promptly rushed to the scene to douse the raging flames engulfing the truck.
Despite their concerted efforts, the fire continued to rage, resulting in significant traffic congestion that persisted for over 2 to 3 hours.
