A comprehensive assessment conducted by Tripura’s authorities has underscored the urgent need to tackle the water scarcity, particularly acute in hilly regions where water sources are rapidly depleting. To chart out effective strategies, a high-level meeting convened in Agartala, spearheaded by Abhishek Singh, Secretary of the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation.
Key stakeholders including the Chief Engineer, Additional Chief Engineer, Superintendent Inspector, and Executive Inspectors from various districts deliberated on the gravity of the situation. Central to their discussions was the imperative to expedite and uphold the integrity of drinking water supply projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
Secretary Abhishek Singh stressed the importance of proactive measures to ensure the seamless functioning of water projects, especially in areas witnessing heightened demand for drinking water. The deployment of tankers to these regions was deemed indispensable to meet immediate requirements and forestall further escalation of the crisis.
Residents grappling with water shortages were urged to seek assistance through the toll-free helpline or by reaching out to local Drinking Water and Sanitation Offices. The government pledged relentless efforts to ramp up water supply through tankers as required.
Moreover, plans were outlined to disinfect water sources and furnish safe drinking water, with stringent monitoring and testing protocols in place. Immediate reporting of any outbreaks of waterborne diseases was emphasized to enable swift intervention.
In a concerted effort, officials from the Tripura State Electricity Corporation (TSECL) and the Tripura Renewal Energy Development Agency (TREDA) were tasked with expediting electricity connections to pending water supply projects. These collective measures are geared towards alleviating the water crisis and safeguarding the well-being of affected communities across Tripura.
