East Guwahati Police Seize Vehicle Carrying 24 Live Cattle in Illegal Operation

The East Guwahati Police Department (EGPD) sprang into action on May 1, intercepting a vehicle laden with 24 live cattle at the Jorabat Link Road, marking a significant breakthrough in their efforts to combat illegal cattle transportation.

The vigilant police team, stationed at the Jorabat Outpost (OP), Basistha, swung into action during a routine Naka checking operation at the Assam-Meghalaya border point, intercepting a vehicle bearing registration number AS01QC7977.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as 21-year-old Musharraf Ali hailing from Mayong, Morigaon, was promptly apprehended by the police team. Ali, who was transporting the live cattle from the Morigaon side, was en route to Byrnihat, Meghalaya, when he was intercepted.

Upon interrogation, Ali failed to produce any valid documents or legal papers affirming his ownership of the 24 cattle, raising suspicions regarding the legality of the operation. As a result, the accused was taken into police custody for further investigation.

The swift action by the EGPD underscores their commitment to curbing illegal cattle transportation activities in the region, safeguarding animal welfare, and upholding the rule of law. Authorities have initiated a thorough investigation into the matter to uncover any potential links to wider networks involved in such illicit operations.
