Concern grips Assam’s Dima Hasao district as authorities issue an alert following a Meteorological Department forecast predicting heavy rainfall over the next 10 days. With heavy downpour expected from Sunday until May 15, officials are urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel, reserving movement only for emergencies.
To enhance safety measures, authorities are imposing a halt on the movement of heavy commercial vehicles along the Jatinga-Harangajao stretch of NH-27 starting from 8 pm on Saturday. Alternative routes will be designated to divert traffic during this period, minimizing potential risks.
The District Disaster Management Authority is calling upon the public to exercise caution, advising against venturing out during the rainfall unless for emergency or medical purposes. Residents are encouraged to maintain vigilance and readiness for any potential disasters resulting from the inclement weather.
In a bid to facilitate assistance, contact numbers for the District Emergency Operation Centre have been disseminated, ensuring residents can seek help if necessary. Dima Hasao has already been grappling with continuous rainfall in recent days, disrupting normal life and prompting the closure of schools in the district headquarters, Haflong.
