In a joint operation on Monday, May 6, Assam Rifles and Champhai Police successfully intercepted and seized 2.163 kilograms of Methamphetamine at the Melbuk Road junction in Champhai, Mizoram.
The confiscated drugs, valued at Rs. 6.489 crores, represent a significant blow to drug trafficking activities in the region. The collaborative efforts of the security forces led to the apprehension of one individual, identified as Rohmingthanga (20) from Zokhawthar village, along with a Tata Sumo bearing Registration No. MZ 08 1627.
Subsequently, the apprehended individual and the vehicle were handed over to the Police Department in Zokhawthar for further legal proceedings. The swift and decisive action taken by law enforcement agencies underscores their unwavering commitment to combating illicit drug trade and maintaining law and order in the region.
In a separate operation along the Champhai-Aizawl Road, the joint team, in coordination with the Customs & Preventive Force, seized 20 cases of Foreign Origin Cigarettes valued at Rs. 26 lakh. These operations demonstrate the proactive measures undertaken by authorities to address various forms of illegal activities, safeguarding the well-being and security of the community.
