Nagaland’s Inaugural Potato Festival Celebrated in Jakhama

On May 10, the first-ever Nagaland Potato Festival was joyously celebrated at a local ground in Jakhama, Kohima, marking a significant milestone for the state’s agricultural sector.

The festival aimed to showcase Nagaland’s organic produce and highlight the importance of promoting local potatoes within the state.

Addressing the attendees, Special Guest Commissioner of Police Dimapur, Kevithuto Sophie, shared insights into the experience and process of planting and harvesting potatoes in the paddy fields of his native village.

He expressed gratitude for the abundance of nature bestowed upon the southern Angamis.Senior Scientist and Head Incharge of ICAR-CRRI (RS) Shillong, Dr. N Sailo, provided an introduction to the scientific methods employed in potato cultivation, emphasizing the importance of adopting modern agricultural techniques.The event commenced with a keynote address by host Visakunu Tetso, followed by an invocation led by Pastor John Zao.

District Agricultural Officer Kekhrieletuo Yhome extended a warm welcome to all participants, setting the stage for a day of celebration and learning.
