Jitendra Chaudhury, the Leader of the Opposition in Tripura, has issued a fervent plea to the state government, urging swift intervention to address the severe food, water, and economic crisis plaguing the residents of Rasmani Para in Chawmanu Block, Dhalai District.
Chaudhury’s visit to Rasmani Para revealed the dire circumstances faced by its inhabitants, with reports indicating widespread shortages of essential resources such as money, food, and water. Highlighting the tragic demise of a 47-year-old woman, Bhanupati Tripura, due to malaria without medical intervention, Chaudhury emphasized the government’s obligation to dispatch a medical team and provide essential amenities. However, he lamented the government’s failure to fulfill this responsibility.
Furthermore, Chaudhury shed light on the dearth of employment opportunities, citing the absence of MNREGA works for the past six months, exacerbating the crisis. He also brought to attention the plight of residents compelled to engage in illegal activities, such as crossing into Bangladesh to collect tree resin (‘Gandhaki’), in order to earn a meager income.
Expressing dismay at the government’s inaction, Chaudhury underscored the dire circumstances faced by the residents of Rasmani Para and neighboring villages, where approximately 100 individuals are forced to seek livelihoods outside their community due to the lack of local opportunities.
Chaudhury’s impassioned appeal serves as a clarion call for immediate government intervention to provide essential medical aid, water, and employment opportunities to alleviate the suffering of the distressed populace of Rasmani Para.
