Investigation Launched: FIR Filed Against Central Correctional Home Staff for Allegedly Aiding Prisoner’s Escape

An FIR has been registered against two individuals, including the Guard Commander of the Central Correctional Home in Tripura, for their alleged involvement in aiding the escape of a life-convicted prisoner.

Swarna Kr. Tripura, serving a sentence for murder, reportedly absconded from the Central Correctional Home located in Bishalgarh, Sepahijala District, on Tuesday.

Rakesh Chakraborty, the superintendent of the central correctional home, filed the FIR with the Bishalgarh police station, citing suspicions surrounding the roles of two individuals.

According to the FIR, the life-convicted prisoner made his escape from his block on May 14 around 8 AM, as reported by the on-duty gatekeeper. CCTV footage indicated the unauthorized presence of Tapan Rupini in the ward the previous night, where Swarna Kr. Tripura was housed. Rupini was observed assisting in the opening of the relevant lockup at approximately 8 PM on May 13.

The FIR further reveals that during the prisoner’s escape at approximately 12:45 AM on May 14, he was seen carrying a bag potentially containing tools for jailbreaking. Preliminary investigations have cast suspicion on the roles of Tapan Rupini, a Warder, and Md. Mafiz Mia, Guard Commander of Kendriya Sansodhanagar, Tripura.

The Superintendent has called for the lodging of an FIR against the escaped prisoner and the implicated staff, alongside any other individuals involved, if identified. He has urged for a thorough investigation to locate and recapture the absconded prisoner.
