Focused Efforts Directed to Alleviate Flood Impact in Rangpo Sub Division

Under the leadership of Tashi Chophel, Deputy Commissioner of Pakyong, a thorough assessment and inventorying of flood-affected zones were undertaken in Rangpo Sub Division. The initiative aimed to evaluate the situation and synchronize restoration endeavors across various departments.

Participating in the inspection were officials from diverse departments, including ADC Pakyong, SDM Rangpo, SDPO Rangpo, DFO (T), DPO Pakyong, BDO Duga, MEO Rangpo, and representatives from departments such as Water Resources, PHE, Power, Forest & Environment, and UDD.

The program commenced with a briefing session led by the District Collector at the Tourism Information Centre hall, where the prevailing situation was assessed in collaboration with line departments.

The inspection initiated from Chantar Rangpo, prioritizing the examination of the drain along the alternative route above Sikkim Distilleries and the clearance of debris on the road. Immediate restoration directives were issued to PWD, including the clearance of water channels and the construction of an RCC band wall at the road entrance.

DC Pakyong directed BRO to expeditiously address issues identified along deteriorated drains above EPCS Church Rangpo. At the IBM area and Goli Ground Rangpo, concerns regarding water accumulation prompted instructions to RNP Rangpo for preventive measures.

A comprehensive inspection around Lower IBM revealed blocked drains, necessitating immediate restoration actions from UDD and RNP. Similarly, obstructed drains along the highway towards Singtam prompted directives to NHIDCL for clearance.

Issues concerning the approach road and drains below Singtam Hospital were raised, with NHIDCL instructed for prompt restoration.

Furthermore, representatives briefed DC and the public about proposed mitigation projects and restoration measures awaiting approval from higher authorities, underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing flood-related challenges.
