In a significant breakthrough, Assam Police have seized a substantial quantity of drugs from a family residing in Kathasema village, Jagun, as part of their relentless anti-drug campaign. The operation resulted in the apprehension of three family members: a husband, wife, and daughter-in-law.
The raid, executed on Sunday night, was led by Margherita Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sambhani Mishra (IPS), in collaboration with the Katha Buridihing Regional Youth Association. Acting on actionable intelligence, the team detained Arun Nirmalia, his wife Zonmaya Nirmalia, and their daughter-in-law Cheng Nirmalia. Arun Nirmalia’s son, Rahul Nirmalia, managed to evade capture and is currently evading law enforcement.
During the operation, authorities seized approximately 450 grams of heroin, valued at over Rs 10 lakh, along with Rs 18,000 in cash. The illicit substances were cleverly concealed within 36 soap boxes. Notably, both Arun and Rahul Nirmalia have a history of prior arrests and convictions related to drug-related offenses.
The arrested individuals are presently undergoing interrogation at Lekhapani police station as investigators endeavor to glean further insights into their drug trafficking endeavors. This successful operation underscores the unwavering commitment of law enforcement agencies in combating drug trafficking activities within the region.
