In a significant development, a specialized three-member team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken custody of 40-year-old Hannan Mia, a notorious criminal wanted for various heinous offenses, from Tripura. Mia, notorious for his involvement in international human trafficking and other illicit activities, is currently being transported to Guwahati to be presented before the NIA special court.

The successful operation was spearheaded by Officer-in-Charge of Bishalgarh Police Station, Rana Chatterjee, who led a meticulously planned operation on Sunday to apprehend Mia. Speaking with India Today NE, Chatterjee elucidated that Mia carried a bounty of Rs 1 lakh on his head, as declared by the NIA. “Acting on credible intelligence, we launched a targeted operation and successfully apprehended Mia. He has been implicated in various nefarious activities, including international human trafficking and exploitation of underage girls in prostitution networks, as well as the fabrication of Indian documents,” Chatterjee elaborated.

Subsequent to Mia’s arrest, Tripura Police promptly notified the NIA, following which a specialized team from Guwahati swiftly arrived to assume custody. Securing a four-day transit remand, the NIA team is presently escorting Mia to Guwahati for his imminent appearance before the special NIA court. “As we speak, NIA officials are in transit with Hannan Mia from Agartala to Guwahati, where he will be formally presented before the special NIA court,” Chatterjee added.
