As the scorching heatwave continues to grip Bongaigaon, Assam, the Office of the District Commissioner has taken proactive measures to safeguard the well-being of students by modifying school timings across the district.
In response to the extreme weather conditions, both government and private schools will implement revised schedules aimed at minimizing students’ exposure to the blistering heat. The directive, issued by the District Commissioner, underscores the paramount importance of prioritizing the health and safety of students during this challenging period.
Effective immediately, lower primary schools will operate from 7 am to 10 am to ensure that students are indoors during the hottest part of the day. Similarly, middle English and upper primary schools will commence classes from 7 am to 11 am, while high schools and higher secondary schools will adhere to a schedule from 7 am to 12 noon.
In addition to adjusting school hours, the order mandates the suspension of all outdoor activities, including sports and assemblies, until further notice. Indoor activities may continue, provided they do not involve strenuous physical exertion. To mitigate the risk of dehydration and heat-related illnesses, schools are instructed to provide cool drinking water and designate shaded areas for students.
Furthermore, school authorities are directed to promptly attend to any student displaying symptoms of heat exhaustion or related ailments. The Inspector of Schools and the District Elementary Education Officer (DEEO) of Bongaigaon have been tasked with ensuring strict adherence to these guidelines and overseeing their implementation across all educational institutions.
Parents, students, and staff members are urged to stay informed about the revised timings and safety protocols through official communication channels established by their respective schools. Non-compliance with the directives may result in disciplinary action, as school inspectors will monitor adherence to the guidelines closely.
The decision to adjust school timings and implement precautionary measures reflects the administration’s proactive approach in addressing the challenges posed by the prevailing heatwave. These measures will remain in effect until further assessments deem them necessary, underscoring the commitment to prioritizing the well-being of Bongaigaon’s student community.
