As temperatures continue to soar amidst a relentless heatwave, the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metro district has taken decisive action to protect students by revising school timings. Effective Monday, May 27th, 2024, both government-provincialized and private schools within the district will adhere to new schedules aimed at mitigating the effects of the scorching weather.
Revised School Hours:
- Lower Primary Schools: 7:30 A.M. to 12:00 Noon
- Middle English Schools: 7:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M
- High Schools and Higher Secondary Schools: 7:30 A.M. to 01:00 P.M
In addition to the adjusted timings, schools have been directed to implement various measures to ensure the safety and well-being of students during the heatwave.
Safety Measures for Students:
- Indoor Morning Assemblies: Morning assemblies are to be conducted indoors or in shaded areas to minimize exposure to direct sunlight.
- Fan Maintenance: Schools must ensure that electric fans are operational and well-maintained to provide relief from the heat.
- Flexible Dress Code: Students are advised to avoid wearing heavy clothing such as blazers, waistcoats, and ties. They may also opt for sandals instead of closed shoes for comfort.
- Health Monitoring: Schools are instructed to monitor students for signs of discomfort or heat-related illnesses. Prompt action should be taken, including notifying parents and seeking medical assistance if necessary.
- Parental Awareness: Parents will be informed about precautionary measures through messages or phone calls to ensure their cooperation in safeguarding their children’s health.
Additionally, previous directives regarding water bells and morning assemblies, issued on May 22nd, 2024, will remain in effect alongside these new guidelines.
The proactive measures taken by the authorities prioritize the well-being of students, demonstrating a commitment to ensuring their safety amidst challenging weather conditions.
