In response to the impending threat of Cyclone Remal, authorities in Assam’s Kamrup district have taken proactive steps to safeguard public safety. All ferry services and fishing activities on the Brahmaputra River and its tributaries will be suspended from May 27 to May 28, 2024.
The Kamrup District Disaster Management Authority issued the suspension order to mitigate potential risks associated with the cyclone, which is expected to bring strong winds and heavy rainfall to the region. The decision aims to protect residents and prevent accidents or mishaps during the adverse weather conditions.
While ferry services and fishing activities are temporarily halted, exceptions are made for essential services, relief and rescue operations, and transportation related to critical infrastructure projects like the Guwahati-North Guwahati Bridge project.
The suspension aligns with meteorological forecasts indicating the progression of Cyclone Remal over the east-central Bay of Bengal. As the cyclone moves northward, it poses a significant threat to Kamrup district and surrounding areas in Assam.
Authorities emphasize the importance of residents cooperating with these measures and urge everyone to stay informed about safety protocols during this period of heightened risk. By acting preemptively, the district aims to minimize potential damage and ensure the well-being of its residents.
