DELHI – The Supreme Court has turned down Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s plea for a seven-day extension to his interim bail in a corruption case linked to the Delhi liquor policy.
Kejriwal, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), had requested the extension to his interim bail, which is due to end on June 1. He was previously granted bail on May 10 to campaign for the Lok Sabha elections, with a surrender date of June 2.
On May 27, Kejriwal filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking an extension of his interim bail by a week, citing medical reasons. However, a vacation bench of the Supreme Court on May 28 rejected the urgent hearing for the extension, stating that the case had already been previously considered.
The bench clarified that the Chief Justice of India (CJI) would make the final decision regarding the listing of the case. The extension plea pertains to the LiquorGate scandal case, highlighting the legal complexities surrounding Kejriwal’s bail status.
