Aizawl, June 4, 2024 — Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) candidate Richard Vanlalhmangaiha has claimed a decisive victory in the Mizoram Lok Sabha elections, buoyed by a strong wave of support for his party.
Vanlalhmangaiha achieved a substantial lead of 66,845 votes over his nearest competitor, K Vanlalvena of the Mizo National Front (MNF), in the state’s sole parliamentary constituency.
“Since the ZPM came to power in Mizoram in November last year, there has been a strong wave in favour of the party in the state. It is because of the party wave and its policies, I received massive support from the people,” Vanlalhmangaiha told PTI.
In the final tally, Vanlalhmangaiha secured 2,06,377 votes, while Vanlalvena received 1,39,532 votes. Congress candidate Lalbiakzama finished third with 97,761 votes.
Vanlalhmangaiha emphasized his independence, stating he would not align with either the NDA or the Congress-led INDIA bloc if elected. He attributed his victory to the strong faith people have in Chief Minister Lalduhoma and the ZPM’s leadership.
Around 56.87 percent of the 8.56 lakh registered voters participated in the election, which was held on April 19. Vanlalhmangaiha expressed his commitment to bringing several central projects to Mizoram, reflecting the aspirations of the people who supported him.
