Tragedy struck the New Market area in Dimapur, Nagaland, as Abdul Kayum Talukdar, the Gaon Bura (Village Headman), fell victim to a fatal attack on the night of June 7. The shocking incident unfolded around 9:30 pm near Axis Bank in the Signal Bosti area, where Talukdar was accompanying a staff member to a nearby building.
According to reports from the police, Talukdar, aged 60, was ambushed by unidentified assailants who shot him in the back of his left shoulder from behind. Despite efforts to rush him to Faith Hospital by two individuals, Talukdar succumbed to his injuries upon arrival.
In response to the tragic event, security forces and Dimapur police swiftly launched a search operation in the area to track down the perpetrators responsible for this heinous crime.
The senseless killing has triggered widespread condemnation and outrage, particularly from the New Market Business Welfare Committee Ward-19. In a strongly worded statement, the Committee denounced the act as “heinous” and demanded swift justice, expressing deep sorrow and shock over the incident.
Similarly, the Muslim Council Dimapur (MCD) has joined the chorus of condemnation, urging law enforcement agencies to apprehend the culprits and ensure they face the full extent of the law. Ahidur Rehman, the working president of the council, mourned the loss of Talukdar, highlighting his esteemed leadership and dedicated service to the community.
The collective outcry for justice underscores the profound anguish and determination of the community to hold the perpetrators accountable and uphold the safety and security of its members.
