Escalating Violence and Fear in Jiribam District

The situation in Manipur’s Jiribam district has escalated following the brutal murder of a 59-year-old resident from Sorok Atingbi Khunou on June 6. The incident has instilled widespread fear and unrest, prompting residents to flee their homes in search of safety.

In Mongbung Khul, frightened residents have sought refuge at the LP School in Chingdong Leikai, underscoring the urgent need for protection and security within the community.

The unrest further intensified with reports of arson attacks on residential properties. Unknown assailants set ablaze a house in Nunkhal and a farmhouse in Leisabithol, exacerbating the sense of insecurity among residents.

Traditionally known for its peaceful coexistence of mixed populations, Jiribam has been rocked by these recent violent events. In response, authorities have imposed Section 144 to restore order and ensure the safety of residents.

Call for Unity and Safety

The surge in violence and insecurity has spurred calls for unity and vigilance among communities. Authorities are working diligently to restore peace and provide necessary protections to affected individuals. The imposition of Section 144 and ongoing security operations aim to stabilize the region and reassure residents of their safety.
