Majuwa Village in South Sikkim Devastated by Floods; Three Missing, Several Houses Swept Away

Majuwa village, nestled in the Yangang region of South Sikkim, faced catastrophic floods on June 10, resulting in the destruction of eight houses and displacing numerous families. The calamity, triggered by relentless rainfall, has left three individuals missing, prompting urgent search and rescue operations.

The swift onset of the flood prompted immediate response efforts, with a district team led by the District Program Officer (DPO) mobilizing alongside various Disaster Management Authorities (DMAs) to address the crisis. Additional teams, including those led by the Block Development Officer (BDO), the Deputy Director of the Land Revenue and Disaster Management (LRDM), and the Station House Officer (SHO) of Yangang, are actively involved in providing assistance and coordinating rescue operations.

Local authorities remain vigilant, closely monitoring the situation as rescue efforts continue amidst challenging conditions.
