Child Abuse Shock in Silchar: Mother Forces Toddler to Drink and Smoke; Arrest Imminent

A harrowing incident unfolds in Silchar as a mother subjects her 1 year-8-month-old toddler to forced drinking and smoking within a rented residence on Chengcoorie road. The appalling act surfaces after the District Child Helpline receives distressing photographs from an informant on June 12.

Promptly reacting, the District Child Protection Unit, Cachar, in collaboration with Silchar Sadar Police, conducts a raid at the location. The mother, conceding to the acts and dubbing them as “partying,” is apprehended.

Expressing grave concern, Debashish Dey, Supervisor of the District Child Helpline Unit, remarks, “This is an alarming incident.” Both mother and child are relocated to a shelter home pending legal proceedings. An imminent arrest awaits the mother upon the filing of an FIR.
