The Meghalaya government has unveiled plans to issue a tender for the interior renovation of the iconic Pinewood Hotel, with pending approval of the detailed project report (DPR).
BL Lyngdoh of the Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) quashed circulating rumors, affirming that no contracts have been awarded to Vikram Singhania. “We will initiate the tender process once the DPR is approved. It will be conducted transparently, allowing local contractors to participate,” Lyngdoh clarified.
He underscored the commitment to community involvement and benefit, assuring that eligible local contractors would be given preference according to departmental criteria. “Transparency and integrity are paramount in this project,” Lyngdoh emphasized.
The renovation project aims to modernize the hotel’s facilities while preserving its historical allure. Planned upgrades encompass the Banquet Hall, Kitchen, Restaurant, Restaurant extension, Coffee shop, Lobby & Reception, and Conference room. Additionally, improvements will be made to furniture, lighting, and HVAC systems.
Currently, the DPR is under preparation, with initial assessments underway, including supervised dismantling of ceiling parts and wooden floors by laborers. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to revitalizing heritage assets while fostering local participation and transparency.
