Forensic Report Uncovers New Details in IIT Kharagpur Student’s Death

A forensic report has uncovered crucial details about the death of Faizan Ahmed, an IIT Kharagpur student from Assam, suggesting a murder conspiracy. The report, prepared by retired forensic expert Dr. Ajay Kumar Gupta, indicates that Faizan was both stabbed and shot before his death.

Dr. Gupta’s examination identified a gunshot wound on the upper left side of Faizan’s neck and a stab wound on the right side. These findings were absent from the initial police investigation and the first postmortem conducted at Midnapore Medical College on October 15, 2022.

Faizan’s family had suspected foul play days before his body was discovered. Notably, the room where Faizan’s body was found was not his assigned hostel room, raising further suspicions.

Addressing these concerns, the Calcutta High Court ordered a second postmortem on May 27, 2023, conducted at the Kolkata Police Morgue. This second examination revealed that Faizan’s right temporal bone was missing, consistent with photos taken when his body was first found. The report also dismissed earlier claims of poisoning.

On March 29, 2023, the Calcutta High Court had directed the exhumation of Faizan’s remains from Dibrugarh, Assam, for a thorough forensic analysis by Dr. Gupta. His decomposed remains were transported to the Kolkata Police morgue on May 24, 2024.

Dr. Gupta is expected to submit his final report later this month. The Calcutta High Court, now under Justice Amrita Sinha, will hear the case next week.
