Guwahati: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Guwahati has issued a warning for very heavy rainfall across Assam and Meghalaya from June 15 to 17. The Regional Meteorological Centre reported that Guwahati is likely to experience cloudy skies with intermittent rain and a high chance of thunderstorms on June 15.
According to the IMD forecast, Guwahati can expect one or two spells of rain or thundershowers on June 16, with a subsequent decrease in rainfall intensity in the following days. On June 15, Guwahati recorded a temperature of 30.6 degrees Celsius, slightly lower than the 31.0 degrees Celsius recorded on June 14. Similar temperatures were reported in Dispur on both days.
The IMD has identified a persistent cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam and its surrounding areas at 1.5 km above mean sea level. Additionally, another cyclonic circulation over Sikkim has contributed to landslides due to continuous rainfall in the region. Thunderstorms and lightning are expected in isolated places across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated in certain areas of Assam and Nagaland on June 15.
In stark contrast, Delhi is currently experiencing its fifth consecutive day of heatwaves as of June 14, with temperatures projected to soar between 44-45 degrees Celsius over the next five days. The IMD has issued an “orange” alert for June 15, indicating the possibility of isolated thunderstorms or lightning accompanied by light rain in some areas during the afternoon or evening.
