Sikkim’s Cultural Essence Illuminates JLF Valladolid Inauguration in Spain

The vibrant cultural heritage of Sikkim took center stage at the inaugural launch of Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF) Valladolid in Spain, marked by the distinguished presence of Ms. Yishey D. Yongda, District Collector of Soreng. The event, held from June 13th to 16th, 2024, celebrated its second edition under the auspices of the Valladolid City Council and Teamwork Arts, showcasing a rich tapestry of literary and artistic expressions.

Ms. Yishey D. Yongda’s participation, invited by the Valladolid City Council and Teamwork Arts, highlighted the festival’s role in fostering cross-cultural dialogue between Indian and Spanish literary circles. The event brought together authors, poets, and thinkers for profound discussions on literature, ideas, and the nuanced intersections of life.

Distinguished guests at the festival included Indian Ambassador to Spain Dinesh Patnaik, celebrated authors William Dalrymple, Namita Gokhale, Christina Lamb, and Tishani Doshi. Other notable attendees were Vikas Swarup, Nobel Laureate Abhijit Banerjee, Spanish actor and writer Jordi Molla Perales, Valladolid Mayor Jesús Garcia, and Indian filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, adding both glamour and intellectual depth to the proceedings.

The convergence of the inaugural Sikkim Arts & Literature Festival (Khangchendzonga-SALF) with JLF Valladolid further enriched the event’s cultural exchanges. Ms. Yishey D. Yongda, leveraging the platform, aimed to enhance Sikkim’s Silent Reading program and build on the global connections established at this prestigious literary gathering in Valladolid.

This collaboration underscores the festival’s commitment to cultural and intellectual enrichment, celebrating the unique literary traditions of Sikkim within an international framework.
