In a pivotal development ahead of Nagaland’s Urban Local Body (ULB) election, 79 candidates have withdrawn their nominations on the final day, significantly altering the electoral landscape across Eastern Nagaland. This decision, confirmed by an official from the State Election Commission (SEC), follows the initial submission of nomination papers by 669 candidates, including 238 women, underscoring robust initial participation.
The withdrawals have prompted adjustments in the candidate roster, intensifying competition among contenders vying for positions in 3 municipal councils and 36 town councils. The SEC assures stakeholders of its commitment to conducting a fair and transparent election, despite these changes.
The upcoming ULB election holds critical importance as it will shape local governance structures and drive community development initiatives throughout Nagaland. As preparations proceed, focus remains on ensuring that the electoral process reflects the will of the people and fosters progress in urban governance across the state.
