Assam Rifles Clarifies Refugee Situation Amid Allegations in Manipur

The Assam Rifles has issued a firm response to allegations made by various Naga civil bodies regarding the presence of illegal immigrants in Manipur. These allegations were part of a memorandum submitted to Home Minister Amit Shah, demanding action against alleged illegal migrants from Myanmar and the withdrawal of Assam Rifles from the Indo-Myanmar border areas around Kamjong in Manipur.

In a detailed clarification, Assam Rifles stated, “In the area from BP 82 to 89, some refugees have taken shelter due to the ongoing conflict in Myanmar. However, they are promptly repatriated as the security situation stabilizes along the Indo-Myanmar border.” The statement further clarified that the accommodations provided to these refugees are basic, consisting of self-help thatched huts with polythene covers.

The letter emphasized the collaborative effort between Assam Rifles and the state administration in managing the refugee situation. It highlighted that biometric data of the refugees has been collected to facilitate proper monitoring and coordination. “The State Administration is fully informed about the presence of refugees and maintains close coordination with security forces to ensure border security and prevent any unlawful activities,” the statement added.

Assam Rifles reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining vigilance in the border regions, ensuring security and stability. The clarification aims to allay concerns raised by Naga civil bodies regarding illegal immigration and underscore the measures in place to address refugee issues effectively while upholding border security.
