Flooding Forces Extended Closure of Schools in Karimganj District, Assam

Due to rising water levels in the Longai and Kushiyara rivers caused by continuous rainfall, the Karimganj district administration has decided to extend the closure of all educational institutions, including government and private schools, until June 22.

However, pre-scheduled examinations will proceed as planned despite the closures, ensuring minimal disruption to academic schedules.

This precautionary measure aims to prioritize the safety and security of students, given that several schools have already been inundated by rainwater.

The extension of the closure follows an earlier declaration on June 18. The current order, effective from June 19 to June 22, aligns with Section 30(2)(v) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, which authorizes authorities to implement necessary measures during emergencies to safeguard public welfare.

The district administration emphasizes its commitment to protecting students and the community amidst challenging weather conditions. Parents and students are encouraged to remain updated on further announcements from the district administration regarding the resumption of classes and any adjustments to examination schedules.
