Urgent Repairs Sought for Neglected State Highway Connecting Kaliabor

Residents of Kaliabor are increasingly alarmed by the deteriorating state of a crucial state highway that serves as a vital link to NH 37 in Amoni. Managed by the construction department and pivotal since 2018, the highway connects numerous tea gardens and localities in Karbi Anglong, playing a pivotal role in daily commutes.

The worsening condition of the highway has significantly inconvenienced thousands of residents, impacting essential travel for students and patients alike. Despite continuous appeals to authorities, locals have expressed frustration over the prolonged neglect and lack of remedial action. According to one resident, “Since 2018, this road linking to the National Highway has deteriorated, posing major difficulties. Students and patients face numerous challenges due to its poor condition, and our pleas to the authorities have gone unanswered.”

Recent efforts to bring attention to the issue culminated in a meeting with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who pledged prompt action. However, tangible improvements have yet to materialize, leaving communities navigating through impassable stretches and perilous potholes.

Particularly affected areas like Shalna, Sonajuri, Lengteng, and others in Amni report deepening potholes exacerbated by adverse weather conditions. Residents are unified in demanding urgent repairs and developmental efforts, emphasizing the highway’s critical role in connecting locales such as Dijuvelly, Udmari, Rangamati, Kathalguri, Anjukpani, and surrounding regions.

With frustration mounting over six years of deteriorating conditions, residents continue to await effective intervention to restore the highway’s functionality and ensure safe travel for all.
