Assam Police Arrest Five in Connection with Rape of Minor Girl; Chief Minister Orders Thorough Investigation

Assam Police made significant progress on June 25 by apprehending five individuals linked to the rape of a 16-year-old girl in Majbat, Udalguri district, on June 22. The incident occurred as the victim was returning home from tuition.

During the operation, the main accused attempted to flee custody and was injured in a subsequent police firing incident. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed the public, highlighting the severity of the case and ordering the Director General of Police (DGP) to oversee a comprehensive investigation. He stated, “In connection with Mazbat PS Case No. 30/24, involving the rape of a minor girl by several boys on June 22, five miscreants have been arrested. The main accused was injured in police firing yesterday while attempting to escape custody. I have directed the DGP Assam Police to thoroughly investigate the matter under the supervision of a senior officer.”

The arrested suspects have been identified as Mushtaq Ahmed, Mohidul Islam, Hofizul Ali, Saddam Ali, and Ehsan Ahmed. According to reports, the assault was perpetrated by a man on a two-wheeler, accompanied by four associates. The incident has incited public outcry, leading to local residents setting fire to the residences of two accused individuals, Mohidul Islam and Hofizul Ali.
