Late on June 25, the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Agartala, Tripura, conducted a successful operation apprehending five individuals attempting to illegally enter India via the Agartala railway station. Among them were four Bangladeshi women identified as Smt. Meem Sultana (23), Rubaiya Sultana (20) alias Asha, Ritu Begam (28), and Jyoti Khatun (20), alongside Md. Kashem Miah (24), an Indian tout from Sepahijala district, Tripura, who allegedly facilitated their unlawful entry.
Initial reports suggest that the detained Bangladeshi nationals aimed to find employment opportunities in Indian cities such as Ahmedabad and Pune but lacked the necessary documentation for lawful travel within India. Their apprehension highlights the persistent challenge of illegal immigration faced by authorities along the India-Bangladesh border.
Following the operation, a case has been filed at the Agartala GRP Police Station. The five individuals are scheduled to appear in court tomorrow to face legal proceedings for their unauthorized attempt to cross into Indian territory. This incident underscores the critical need for enhanced border security measures to curb illegal immigration effectively.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring robust border controls to safeguard national security and maintain law and order in the region. The GRP’s swift action serves as a deterrent against unlawful activities, reinforcing the importance of vigilance and stringent enforcement to prevent similar incidents in the future.
