Arunachal Pradesh CM Applauds Historic Tumour Removal Surgery on Tigress Chippi

Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, June 29: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has commended veterinarians from the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Arunachal Pradesh, and the Wildlife Trust of India for successfully performing a pioneering tumour removal surgery on a 13-year-old tigress named Chippi at Itanagar Biological Park. This surgery marks a significant milestone as the first of its kind conducted in the state.

The complex procedure, led by Vet Officer Dr. Sorang Tadap and senior surgeon Dr. Nido Tayo of the state veterinary department, along with Dr. Panjit Basumatary from the Wildlife Trust of India, involved the delicate removal of two tumorous masses from the tigress’s neck.

Chief Minister Khandu expressed his admiration for the achievement on social media, stating, “A remarkable feat in wildlife conservation! Kudos to the veterinary team – Dr. Sorang Tadap, Dr. Nido Tayo, and Dr. Panjit Basumatary from WTI – for successfully performing a unique surgery on tigress Chippi. They diligently removed two large tumours, contributing significantly to wildlife medicine and ecosystem conservation.”

The Wildlife Trust of India highlighted the surgery as a historic milestone for Arunachal Pradesh’s wildlife management efforts, underscoring its impact on advancing veterinary care in wildlife conservation.
