Assam Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi Blasts PM Modi Over Fatal BMW Incident in Mumbai

Assam Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has condemned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration in the wake of a tragic incident where a 45-year-old woman, Kaveri Nakhwa, was fatally struck by a BMW in Mumbai’s Worli area on July 7. Gogoi accused the government of neglecting the weak and vulnerable, echoing sentiments voiced by Kaveri’s husband, Pradeep Liladhar Nakhwa, who lamented, “There is no one for the poor.”

The fatal accident occurred as Pradeep and Kaveri Nakhwa were heading home after purchasing fish. Mihir Shah, identified as the son of a Shiv Sena leader, allegedly lost control of his BMW and collided with the couple’s two-wheeler. Pradeep described how both he and his wife were thrown onto the car’s bonnet and then to the ground. While Pradeep fell to the side, Kaveri tragically ended up under the vehicle. Despite Pradeep’s desperate pleas for the driver to stop, Shah reportedly sped away with Kaveri on the bonnet.

Pradeep expressed his anguish, stating, “Is he a man or an animal? No one does this to an animal. My wife was screaming when the driver was dragging her… If he had not run away, my wife would have been alive.” Mihir Shah, allegedly intoxicated at the time, was arrested three days later, on July 9.

CCTV footage captured the harrowing sequence of events, showing that Kaveri was dragged for 1.5 kilometers before the BMW eventually stopped. The footage further revealed Shah switching seats with his driver, removing Kaveri’s body from under the car, and leaving it on the road.

Pradeep Nakhwa, speaking to PTI, voiced his frustration: “I asked him to stop, yet he didn’t stop; he ran away. She (the deceased) must have been in so much pain. Everyone knows this but no one is doing anything. There is no one for the poor.”

The incident has sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice, highlighting concerns over the treatment of vulnerable individuals and the accountability of those in power.
