Rahul Gandhi Urges PM Modi’s Intervention in Manipur Violence, Vows Parliamentary Action

Amidst escalating violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities in Manipur, Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, has intensified his call for peace, urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to personally intervene and address the crisis. Gandhi’s appeal comes in the aftermath of his recent visit to the conflict-affected state, where he witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of the clashes.

In a social media post shared on Thursday, Gandhi reiterated the urgent need for Prime Minister Modi to visit Manipur and engage directly with affected communities to facilitate peace talks. He emphasized the gravity of the situation, citing widespread destruction of homes, endangerment of lives, and displacement of thousands forced to seek refuge in relief camps.

“I have visited Manipur three times since the violence erupted, but unfortunately, the situation hasn’t improved,” Gandhi lamented, highlighting the deep-rooted divisions within the state. During his recent visit, Gandhi toured multiple relief camps across various districts, interacting with residents from both communities affected by the conflict.

Gandhi’s advocacy underscores ongoing efforts by the Congress party and the INDIA bloc to address the crisis through parliamentary means. He pledged robust parliamentary action to compel the government to end the unfolding tragedy in Manipur.

“We will exert pressure on the government, and we are committed to doing so,” Gandhi assured affected residents during his interactions at the relief camps. He promised continued advocacy in upcoming parliamentary sessions, stressing the urgency of immediate relief and sustainable solutions to restore peace and stability in Manipur.

Since violence erupted in May last year, Manipur has witnessed over 200 casualties and widespread displacement due to arson and communal clashes between the Meitei and Kuki communities. The situation remains volatile, prompting urgent calls for humanitarian aid and government intervention to prevent further escalation.

Gandhi’s efforts aim to mobilize national support and attention for Manipur, urging coordinated actions to end the ongoing tragedy and foster reconciliation among affected communities.
