New Delhi, July 5, 2024 — In a solemn ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Droupadi Murmu posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra to Late CRPF CoBRA Commando Shambhu Roy, recognizing his gallantry and sacrifice during a Maoist ambush on April 3, 2021. Roy, from Bhagyapur village in North Tripura, lost his life in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur area while part of a combing operation.
Shambhu Roy, who joined the CoBRA battalion of the CRPF in 2015, was among 22 jawans killed in the ambush. He had visited his home just twelve days before the incident, leaving behind his parents, Dwijraj and Anjali Roy, and his brother.
President Murmu presented the award to Roy’s parents, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, and other dignitaries in attendance to honor his extraordinary bravery and dedication. This award underscores the selfless courage of Shambhu Roy and the sacrifices made by security forces for the nation’s safety.
