BSF Seizes Rs 3 Lakh Worth of Smuggled Medicines on India-Bangladesh Border

Shillong, July 19, 2024 — Border Security Force (BSF) personnel from the 172 Battalion in Meghalaya have seized a substantial consignment of smuggled medicines valued at over Rs 3 lakh. The operation, conducted on July 18, took place along the international border in East Jaintia Hills district.

The medicines, which were being illicitly transported to Bangladesh, were intercepted following a targeted operation based on specific intelligence. The successful seizure highlights ongoing efforts to curb cross-border smuggling activities.

Earlier in the week, on July 15, BSF troops in Meghalaya apprehended a Bangladeshi national attempting to smuggle liquor into India. This arrest also occurred in the East Jaintia Hills district, further emphasizing the region’s role in anti-smuggling operations.

The BSF continues to enhance border security and vigilance to tackle smuggling and illegal activities across the India-Bangladesh border.
