Kamalapur, Tripura, July 21, 2024 — In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Tripura Police seized cannabis worth Rs 20 lakh from the Kachucherra area under Kamalapur sub-division in Dhalai District on Sunday.
Kamalpur Sub-divisional Police Officer Ayush Srivastava informed reporters that the operation was initiated following a tip-off from the Sub-divisional Police Officer of Ambassa regarding a suspicious vehicle. When police attempted to intercept the vehicle, it fled the scene.
“The car was later tracked to Kachucherra within the Kamalapur sub-division,” SDPO Srivastava stated. “Tripura Police launched an investigation to locate and detain the vehicle. It was found abandoned in a forested area, with the driver having fled.”
Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered 200 kg of cannabis hidden in the storage compartment. The seized cannabis has an estimated market value of Rs 20 lakh.
The SDPO emphasized that efforts are underway to apprehend the driver and any associated drug peddlers, with the vehicle already in police custody as a crucial piece of evidence.
This successful operation underscores the Tripura Police’s commitment to combating drug trafficking in the region and ensuring the safety and security of its residents.
