Aizawl, July 26 – State-owned SJVN Ltd has received a letter of intent (LoI) from the Mizoram government for the allotment of the 2,400 MW Darzo Lui Pumped Storage Project, valued at over Rs 13,947 crore. The project has been granted on a nomination basis, and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) will be signed within three months, according to the company’s statement.
This marks SJVN’s first project in Mizoram, aimed at leveraging the hydro potential of the Darzo Nallah, a tributary of the Tuipui River. The project, with an estimated cost of Rs 13,947.50 crore (including interest during construction and financing costs as of April 2023), plans to use the gross heads of the upper and lower reservoirs, spanning 770 meters.
The upper reservoir is proposed on a minor stream of Hnahchanglui Nallah in the Koladyne Tuipui River, near South Vanlaiphai village in Hnahthial district. Meanwhile, the lower reservoir will be situated in Darzo Nallah, approximately 5.5 km upstream of its confluence with the Tuipui River near Vertek village.
This ambitious project underscores the ongoing efforts to enhance Mizoram’s infrastructure and harness renewable energy resources.
