Guwahati, July 30, 2024 — Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma paid a visit to Raj Bhawan today to bid a warm farewell to Governor Gulab Kataria and First Lady Anita Kataria. This meeting comes in the wake of a significant gubernatorial reshuffle announced by President Droupadi Murmu on July 27.
During their meeting, Chief Minister Sarma expressed heartfelt gratitude to Governor Kataria for his unwavering support and valuable guidance throughout his tenure. He acknowledged Kataria’s contributions in bolstering government policies and fostering development in the state. Sarma’s farewell marks the end of Kataria’s term as Assam’s governor, as he prepares to transition to his new role in Punjab.
Governor Kataria’s reassignment is part of a comprehensive reorganization of India’s gubernatorial positions, involving seven new appointments and three transfers. In his new role in Punjab, Kataria will succeed Banwarilal Purohit.
