Assam State Teams Up with CivicDataLab to Strengthen Data-Driven Disaster Management Strategies

In a significant move to combat extreme weather events like floods, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CivicDataLab (CDL).

The partnership, established on Wednesday, focuses on enhancing data-driven initiatives aimed at mitigating and adapting to climate-related challenges.

The collaboration seeks to optimize government resource allocation for disaster risk reduction (DRR), as stated in an official release.

Chief Secretary Ravi Kota remarked that Assam has the potential to set a precedent for other states in India by implementing innovative strategies.

He underscored the critical role of data-driven decision-making in various state ministries and sectors, which is essential for improving governance and building climate resilience.

Kota further emphasized the necessity of a united approach that fosters inclusive and effective disaster mitigation efforts, calling for involvement from all government agencies to formulate a comprehensive climate mitigation strategy.

During the event, CDL co-founder and executive director Gaurav Godhwani expressed gratitude to the dignitaries and the Assam government for supporting the development of data-driven solutions aimed at policy reform. He also showcased the distinctive attributes of the Intelligent Data Solution for Disaster Risk Reduction and discussed CDL’s contributions in Assam and across India. The MoU was formally signed by ASDMA CEO Gyanendra Dev Tripathi and Godhwani.
