Indian Government Calls Urgent Meeting on Bangladesh Crisis After Hasina’s Arrival

New Delhi, India – The Indian government has convened an urgent all-party meeting at 10 a.m. today to address the escalating crisis in Bangladesh. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar is set to brief political leaders on the latest developments.

The meeting was prompted by the unexpected arrival of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at India’s Hindon Airbase via a military aircraft. She was welcomed by National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and other senior officials.

Currently, Hasina is taking refuge at the airbase while awaiting clearance for travel to the United Kingdom. Sources indicate she plans to seek asylum in London. However, her plans are uncertain as British Foreign Secretary David Lammy has called for a comprehensive, UN-led investigation into the violence in Bangladesh.

Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Hasina’s son and former official adviser, expressed his mother’s disappointment over the recent events, stating, “She has not done anything wrong. She provided the best government in the country. She will spend time with her grandchildren now.”

This urgent meeting underscores the severity of the situation and India’s vested interest in the stability of Bangladesh. Further updates are expected as the crisis continues to unfold.
