Imphal, Manipur – Manipur Police have made significant strides in their crackdown on insurgent activities with the recent arrest of two members of the banned Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL). Elangbam Rajen Singh (47) and Ningthoujam Ibomcha Singh (53) were detained in Keirak Khongnang Makhong, Kakching District, where they were allegedly involved in extortion operations targeting both the public and government employees across Kakching, Hiyanglam, and Sekmaijin.
During the arrest, authorities also confiscated a four-wheeler and a mobile phone from the suspects.
In a parallel effort, security forces carried out extensive searches and area dominance operations throughout the hill and valley districts, resulting in a substantial arms cache recovery from the foothills of Leirongthel Pitra Lok Macha in Thoubal District. The haul included:
- Two 9mm submachine guns with magazines
- Two 9mm pistols
- One .32 pistol
- Two country-made .303 rifles
- One 12-bore single-barrel shotgun
- Six HE-36 hand grenades
- Three MK-III A2 grenades
- Six tear gas shells
- 123 rounds of live ammunition
- One tube launcher
- Two HE-36 grenade detonators
- Two MK-III A2 grenade detonators
- One “Baofeng” handset
The operation also prioritized the safe transit of essential supplies along NH-2, with security forces overseeing 220 vehicles carrying necessary goods and establishing 102 checkpoints across Manipur. These measures led to the detention of 44 individuals for various offenses, reinforcing the region’s heightened security and commitment to maintaining public order.
