Itanagar Police Arrest Escaped Burglar, Recover Stolen Gold and Valuables

Itanagar, August 10, 2024 — In a major success against local crime, Itanagar Police have arrested a notorious burglar, Toi Tamang, who had previously escaped custody, and have recovered a significant haul of stolen gold and valuables. The arrest brings closure to multiple burglary cases, offering much-needed relief to the community.

The breakthrough came after a complaint was filed by Smti Ratan Kaman, a 55-year-old resident of D-Sector, reporting that her home was burglarized on July 31, 2024. Among the items stolen were a gold chain, a topaz gold ring, eight gold earrings, and two gold nose pins.

The Itanagar Police swiftly registered the complaint under Itanagar Police Station Case No. 130/24, with Sub-Inspector Samuel Ngupok leading the investigation. A dedicated team, comprising Inspector Khiksi Yangfo, Sub-Inspector Ngupok, and Constables Sandeep Yadav, Tayo Bodo, Shiplu Das, and Nik Kabak, was formed to track down the culprit. The team focused on interrogating known offenders and enhancing intelligence gathering.

Tamang had managed to escape police custody on July 20, 2024, and had been evading electronic surveillance. However, relying on human intelligence, the police tracked him to the Papu Nallah area, where he was apprehended.

Upon his arrest, Tamang confessed to the burglary and revealed the location of the stolen items. The police were able to recover a variety of stolen goods, including:

  • A Canon digital camera
  • A laptop
