Tripura Police Seize Narcotics Worth Rs 2.50 Crore in Major Anti-Drug Operation

Agartala, August 10, 2024 — In a significant blow to drug trafficking networks, Tripura Police have seized narcotics worth over Rs 2.50 crore in a major operation conducted in the Ambassa Subdivision of Dhalai District. The operation, carried out under the Nasha Mukt Tripura Abhiyan, also led to the arrest of one individual, marking a substantial victory in the state’s ongoing anti-drug efforts.

Superintendent of Police for Dhalai District, Avinash Rai, provided details of the successful operation, which followed a directive from Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha. Acting on specific intelligence, officers from Ambassa Police Station intercepted a Bolero vehicle with the registration number TR01F2938. The vehicle, suspected of transporting narcotics, was traveling from Manu in Dhalai District to Agartala when it was apprehended after a high-speed chase through the Chamalcharra area.

During the search, authorities uncovered a large stash of drugs hidden within the vehicle’s door panels and backlights, including 80,000 Yaba tablets and 539 grams of brown sugar. The seized contraband is estimated to have an international market value of approximately Rs 2.50 crore.

“The success of this operation underscores our commitment to combating the drug menace in Tripura,” SP Rai remarked. He added that the police had followed all legal procedures during the seizure and that a case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigations are underway to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the trafficking network.

This operation is part of a broader initiative under the Nasha Mukt Tripura Abhiyan, which aims to eradicate drug addiction and trafficking in the state through stringent law enforcement and community outreach programs.
