Central Government Intensifies Relief Efforts as Tripura Faces Severe Flooding

Agartala, August 22, 2024 – With Tripura grappling with severe flooding that has claimed 10 lives and displaced over 34,000 residents since August 19, the central government has ramped up its relief operations.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the dispatch of additional National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, along with boats and helicopters, to support the rescue and relief efforts. “The Modi government stands firmly with the people of Tripura in this critical time,” Shah said after discussing the situation with Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha.

Chief Minister Saha confirmed that eleven NDRF teams from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh are en route to Tripura, and helicopters will be deployed to evacuate residents stranded in the affected areas.

“The state government is working around the clock to manage this unprecedented disaster,” Saha noted, expressing appreciation for the efforts of public representatives, social workers, and the community in addressing the crisis.
