Gaurav Gogoi Criticizes SEBI’s Handling of Adani Probe, Congress Calls for JPC Inquiry

New Delhi, August 22, 2024 – Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has sharply criticized the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) over its handling of the investigation into the Adani Group, following the controversial Hindenburg report. Gogoi’s remarks, made during nationwide Congress protests, focus on SEBI’s perceived reluctance to thoroughly probe the allegations against the Adani Group.

“The erosion of public confidence in SEBI is evident,” Gogoi stated, accusing the regulatory body of failing to address serious concerns raised by the Hindenburg report. He expressed disappointment that the Union Finance Minister had not demanded an explanation from SEBI’s chairman, suggesting a possible government attempt to shield Adani.

In response to these criticisms, the Congress party has called for the resignation of SEBI’s chairman and a detailed statement from the Finance Minister. The party is also pushing for the formation of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to ensure a comprehensive investigation into the allegations.
